It is increasingly recognized that a better understanding of epileptic seizures requires locating and characterizing the functional network of the region where they are initiated (the epileptic focus). This article explores the functional connectivity of interictal epileptiform discharges and shows that these are associated with a transient decrease in overall functional connectivity which is specific to the gamma frequency band.
